Things to Consider When Choosing a Portable Ramp
There are many types of portable ramps to choose from: Threshold Ramps, Curb Butt Ramps, Folding Ramps, Carlite Butt Ramps, one piece Car Ramps and Multi-Fold Ramps.
Determining the type of ramp that will work for you, your loved one or client can be difficult at best. There are many things to take into consideration:
Will the person be using it by themselves?
Will there be someone capable to help them use the ramp?
Frail 100lb Aunt Helen will NOT be capable of helping 250lb Uncle George up and down the ramp.
Will they be using a cane, walker or manual wheelchair?
How steep of an incline can they navigate?
Are they using a power chair or scooter?
Refer to the equipment manufacturer's user guide for their recommendations for incline / decline.
Measure the rise (distance from the top of step, porch, van, etc. to the ground).
Refer to the Measurement Sheet, Slope Chart and Incline Chart to help determine what type of ramp will be best.

If a Portable Ramp does not seem like the best choice for your needs, you may want to consider a Modular Ramp System. These versatile ramp systems come in aluminum or wood and can come with wood or aluminum handrails. There are many standard sizes or they can be customized to fit your application.
