Vertical Porch Lift Winter Safety
Tips
Most Porch Lifts / Vertical Lifts are
designed to work outdoors throughout the entire year, but in the winter,
they need a little more care.
Here are some simple tips to help keep your lift
working trouble free.
Have the lift checked / serviced
every fall by a qualified Lift Service
Company. Lifts need to be checked / serviced just like your
furnace and A/C units.
Most manufacturers recommend lifts be serviced 4 times a
year. We recommend that lifts be serviced 2 times a year
by a manufacturer's authorized Service Company.
Keep the platform free of snow and ice because it can be slippery just like sidewalks and porch
floors. Sometimes the lift can be retro fitted with a canopy
top.
Remove snow and ice from under the lift because it
will prevent the lift from going all the way down.
If it is very cold outside (below 25 degrees), it is a good
idea to run the lift up and down a few times before anyone
gets on it. This will help loosen and warm things up, allowing the lift to run smoother.
When you are finished using the lift for the day, park it 6" -
8" below the upper level. This way, the upper landing gate
will be locked so the wind will not slam the gate
open and closed.
When the lift is at the lower level, park it 5" - 6" above the ground. Sometimes the platform will freeze to the
ground and damage the under pan safety switches, which
could be a costly repair.
